Description
Be transported to the wondrous world of illustrator Redmer Hoekstra. For Heinen Delfts Blauw, the humorous and philosophical artist has created a unique series of wall plates, including this advancing group of strange birds that have chased a nautilus from its shell to attend high tea. Or perhaps it's a giant snail after all. Who knows?
The wall plates are instantly recognizable by their daydreamy illustrations. A colorful collection of surreal creatures march, swim, or roll into the Delftware world of Heinen Delftware. The chattering group of strange birds is crammed into the nautilus shell, but they apparently haven't yet realized they're no longer at sea. The oars turn tirelessly, even on dry land. The chattering group is likely on its way to high tea with their good friends, the pelican and the vulnerable whale in a teapot. Or perhaps you see a completely different story in them. The physical discomfort of the crammed birds is a recurring theme in Redmer's work; it's a source of his humor. For Redmer, the greatest challenge was to merge his alienating world with the world of Heinen Delftware. I used Delft blue elements from the Heinen collection as a starting point for the illustrations and built my world around them. A world in which all the main characters live. They shine on their own, but they also work well together. Choose one wall plate to make it stand out on your wall, or combine the entire collection for a humorous wall where you'll constantly discover new, quirky details.
