The bottle comes with a charcoal stick that purifies your water for six months. It might seem strange to purify your drinking water with a piece of charcoal, but the Japanese have been doing this for centuries. Binchotan is an activated carbon made from tree branches and is known for its ability to soften water, add beneficial minerals, and absorb unwanted tastes and odors, such as chlorine.

Fill the bottle with water and add the charcoal. Letting it sit overnight is ideal, but after an hour you'll notice a real difference. If you notice the filter's effectiveness diminishing over time, you can recharge it by boiling it for ten minutes. Boiling washes away the impurities, allowing the charcoal to absorb more.
