Heinen Delft Blue Tulip Vase on Foot Orchid Ceramic 22 cm

A white tulip vase on a raised base. This snow-white tulip vase is one of Heinen Delfts Blauw's most iconic tulip vases and is decorated all around with slender Delft blue orchid flowers. The tulip vase stands on a sturdy, single base and has a rounded body. Smaller spouts are scattered around the vase, protruding slightly upward, while a larger spout protrudes from the center. This opening is suitable for more or heavier flowers, while the smaller spouts around it are suitable for lighter flowers. The tulip vase was created after Queen Mary II commissioned potters in Delft to create a vase with which she could fill her apartments with fresh flowers. The tulip vase subsequently became incredibly popular and also played a significant role in the tulip mania in the Netherlands, when some tulip varieties cost more than a canal house in Amsterdam. Such expensive flowers, of course, were not placed in an ordinary vase. The various spouts of the tulip vase provide sturdy support for the delicate flower stems, preventing damage and ensuring they stay beautiful longer. Something we still benefit from today.
